Alert Will Smith!

Our nation's Capitol Building, as seen from the mall between the Smithsonians
As you can see, honey and I went to DC this weekend to meet up with Kollmar, a buddy of mine from ODS.  We all had a great time at the Smithsonians, but we had to make one more stop. You'll see in a minute...
Washington Monument, also seen from the mall

Just a sculpture in the Smithsonian that we both liked

What Truman said about Gen. MacArthur. We all saw it and cracked up!
If you look, the frisbee looks like a flying saucer over the Capitol building.  Like I said, alert Will Smith!
And our last, surprise stop! Georgetown Cupcakes! We had to go because the cupcakes Leah ordered for us were too delicious

And this was our bounty, though they were a little beaten up after the train ride out of DC. Oh well.  They were still delicious!

Anchors not-so-aweigh

So honey and I went on a tour of the USS Normandy. It's an AEGIS class cruiser that's anchored in the bay for commissioning week.

My personal favorite (this is the stern of the ship)

This is the Academy barge that took us out to where the cruiser was

Part of the Harry S. Truman Strike Group. Taken just as we were going back ashore.

Our first real look at the cruiser

This one was on the floor of the bridge....it should be self explanatory.

...And this is the one picture I was able to get of honey on the cruiser.

And this was our last view of the USS Normandy as we left for shore.

It was a really nice tour, and we're both really glad we went aboard. Now it's anchors aweigh for them!

Oh so pretty!

It seems we arrived at the perfect time of year. The trees are in bloom - you should have seen them the first day: completely pink blossoms!

You can't see them very well, but there are tons of tulips of all different colors blooming just to the left of the picture. (This is the view from my office, by the way.)
And this gold-tipped building is the Academy Chapel.  It's a historical site...that I am going to have to check out eventually. =)

Now, as you can see, the girls are indulging in their old habits of burrowing in the blankets...with or without us!
